Member for Canning Andrew Hastie MP has launched a bumper sticker campaign against the Albanese Government’s proposal to lock up a massive area of the WA coastline with offshore wind farms near Mandurah, which he has labelled “destructive, costly and a national security threat”.

The initiative comes after Mr Hastie launched a petition against the proposal which has garnered a strong response from the local community, accumulating over 9,300 signatures from locals and counting.

Mr Hastie hosted Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party Sussan Ley MP at a visit to local business Tackle World Miami this week to listen to the concerns of recreational fishers.

He rebuffed recent comments by WA Premier Roger Cook, who signalled support for the wind farm proposal, citing ambitions for Western Australia to become a "renewable energy powerhouse."

"Mr. Cook clearly either hasn’t read the proposal put forward by the Albanese Government, or he’s simply ignoring the wishes of the nearly ten thousand locals who don’t want the offshore wind farm to go ahead," Mr Hastie said.

“Mr Cook needs to get the message – there’s a serious disconnect between his rhetoric and community sentiment.”

“The feedback I have received is clear – our community treasures the natural beauty of our coastline, and the thought of massive wind towers disrupting that beauty is deeply troubling to many people.

"The government must listen to the concerns of the people who will be directly affected by this proposal. It's not just about the visual impact; wind farms cost a massive amount of money and deliver unreliable and unaffordable power compared to our traditional sources.

“And it will increase our energy dependence on a foreign power, as most wind turbines are made in China. We’ll be importing weakness into our grid, while exporting our natural advantage in coal and gas. It makes no sense.”

To show support and join the movement against the proposed tax, bumper stickers are available to be picked up from Mr Hastie's office located at 2/61 Sutton Street in Mandurah.

For those unable to visit in person, stickers can be requested for delivery by submitting this online form: https://www.andrewhastie.com.au/bumper_sticker_our_coast_our_voice
