Just about everyone who lives in Mandurah has at one point asked themselves:

"Why do we have a three lane bridge?"

Whether it's made you late to work, late to school, or late home to your family, the three lane bridge is frustrating. It just doesn't make sense.

Today, that changes.

The Morrison Government is investing $55 million to duplicate the Mandurah Estuary Bridge.

The bridge duplication will add two additional lanes, easing congestion for motorists and creating better access for cyclists and pedestrians.

And with matching funding finally committed by the state government —following a long campaign by local Liberals — this dream will finally become a reality.

Construction is expected to begin in early 2022 and support 200 direct and indirect jobs.

This is just another part of the Morrison Government's plan to build the infrastructure our region needs.

This upgrade joins other fully funded projects that are in development and coming soon, including:

• Major upgrades to Peel Health Campus
• A new train station in Lakelands
• The Mandurah train station multi-storey carpark
• The Tonkin Highway extension
• Byford rail extension
• Pinjarra heavy haulage deviation
