Funding Promised For Mandurah Rd Pedestrian Bridge
A re-elected Morrison Government will commit $2 million to complete the installation of the Madora Bay-Lakelands Pedestrian Bridge project, making the area more accessible and safer for the local community.
Liberal Member for Canning, Andrew Hastie, said he was passionate about the project, which he has been fighting for in Canberra.
“Mandurah is a great place to live, work, and raise a family – and our population growth reflects this, but infrastructure must keep up with this growth. That is why I have worked to deliver federal funding for important projects like the Mandurah Train Station commuter carpark, Lakelands Train Station, Peel Health Campus upgrades and the new foreshore pool, skate park and playground,” Mr Hastie said.
“The completion of the Madora Bay – Lakelands Pedestrian Bridge will make resident’s lives easier, allowing them to quickly and safely enjoy the Madora Bay beaches, or the Lakelands Shopping Centre by foot. Importantly, it will also improve safety for children travelling to and from school.
“I have listened to the local community in north Mandurah and fought to secure the funding for this important project. As your local member I will always fight to deliver the essential infrastructure that the Peel region needs to keep growing and thriving.
Lakelands and Madora Bay are two fast-growing suburbs in the north of Mandurah. With the population expected to grow 81% by 2036 it is vital that local infrastructure keeps up with that population growth.
These suburbs are located on the east and west sides of Mandurah Road – a major 4 lane arterial road, used by 25,000 vehicles per day. This separates residents in Madora Bay from the Lakelands Shopping Centre, the Lakelands Oval and several major schools, and Lakelands residents from the Madora foreshore.
If re-elected in May, the Morrison Government will fulfil the City of Mandurah’s request for funding to complete the installation of the Madora Bay – Lakelands Pedestrian Bridge.
The Madora Bay – Lakelands Pedestrian Bridge site will be near the intersection of Mandurah Road with Madora Beach Road and Banksiadale Gate.
Only the Morrison Government will continue to deliver a better future for Canning and this is part of our plan to build a strong economy and a stronger future.
