AMBULANCE RAMPING PEAKS AS LABOR KEEPS FAILING PEEL COMMUNITY
2 October 2024
Federal Member for Canning, Andrew Hastie, has expressed serious concern over the latest ambulance ramping figures at Peel Health Campus, which continue to climb.
Recent St John data reports that ambulance ramping at Peel Health Campus skyrocket to 447.8 hours in September, the highest figure recorded this year. This marks a sharp increase from less than 300 ramping hours recorded in June.
Mr Hastie warns that this issue is not isolated to the Peel Health Campus, with hospitals across the metropolitan region repeatedly experiencing excessive ramping. Fiona Stanley Hospital, the closest tertiary hospital for Peel patients, recorded 1,099.6 hours for the month – also the highest figure at the hospital for this year.
"This is a serious issue affecting our healthcare system and the broader community. We need urgent solutions to ensure patients receive the care they need when they need it most," Mr Hastie said.
Reports last week highlighted serious failings at Peel Health Campus when women in labour were diverted to other hospitals. However, the response from Labor's Health Minister, Amber-Jade Sanderson, was dismissive, stating "it's standard."
"Lift your standards, Labor," Mr Hastie demanded. "Your inaction is putting lives at risk, especially those in the Peel Region."
Mr Hastie also called out Labor’s unfulfilled promises: "Labor promised an upgrade to Peel Health Campus, announcing a $152 million redevelopment in 2020, but they still have nothing to show for it."
"As our region continues to grow, we need reliable healthcare facilities. The Peel Region is a great place to live, but without adequate healthcare, Labor is letting our community down," Mr Hastie added.
Mr Hastie is encouraging locals to sign his petition to urge the State Government to fix Peel Health Campus which has attracted 4,508 signatures. https://www.andrewhastie.com.au/peel_health_campus
