Media Release: Conservation Works Complete At Paul Robinson Reserve
THE HON ANDREW HASTIE MP - SHADOW MINISTER FOR DEFENCE - FEDERAL MEMBER FOR CANNING
CONSERVATION WORKS COMPLETE AT SERPENTINE’S PAUL ROBINSON RESERVE
Friday 23 September 2022
Federal Member for Canning, the Hon. Andrew Hastie MP, has praised the work of Landcare Serpentine-Jarrahdale following the completion of a local project at Paul Robinson Reserve, Serpentine.
The not-for-profit organisation, which worked alongside the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale and the Serpentine Pony Club, gathered on Tuesday to celebrate the work of volunteers who have transformed the area.
Works included removing degraded horse yards located in the cross-country course, installing fencing, undertaking weed and feral animal control, and revegetating the site with local native species.
Mr Hastie said the works were supported by a $5,067 grant through Round 7 of the former Coalition government’s Stronger Communities Programme.
“Landcare SJ has been outstanding in overseeing these works – from securing funds to reaching project completion – and I congratulate the hard work of those involved,” Mr Hastie said.
“Volunteers have played a crucial role in getting this project from start to finish – giving up hours of their time to clear the pre-existing horse yards, and plant hundreds of native species.
“Their efforts will go a long way in conserving the natural beauty of this reserve, while increasing safety for horse riders who use the area.”
Mr Hastie also thanked the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale, Serpentine Environmental Group and Birdlife WA who contributed to the total cost of the project.
