MANDURAH HEALTHCARE TO RECEIVE BOOST WITH NEW $24.6 MILLION DAY SURGERY HOSPITAL
Federal Member for Canning Andrew Hastie MP has welcomed Ramsay Health Care’s proposal for a $24.6 million day surgery hospital in Mandurah.
Ramsay Health Care currently operate Peel Health Campus, which will be transferred to the WA State Government in August this year – a move that has already been delayed twice.
Mr Hastie said the proposal was good news for his local community.
“It’s great to see plans for a private hospital in Mandurah, which will significantly reduce the need for locals to travel to Rockingham or even Perth to receive treatments and surgeries,” Mr Hastie said.
“While it’s a positive step, it’s only one piece in the puzzle in addressing our local health crisis.”
Mr Hastie highlighted the WA Labor Government’s longstanding commitment to redevelop the Peel Health Campus, noting it had been seven years since this was promised to locals.
“Labor has set aside $152 million for the redevelopment, but sadly, we’re yet to witness progress beyond the construction of a new car park back in 2019,”
“The new hospital’s capacity is only 28 beds, and this is not enough to solve our local health crisis. Many residents are reliant on public healthcare and continue to endure significantly long waiting times for essential treatments.”
Mr Hastie’s concerns are underscored by recent data by St John WA that show that patients have already spent 37 hours waiting in ambulances for urgent care.
“This only reaffirms the urgent need for comprehensive healthcare solutions in our region.”
