Media Release: Labor has been promising Karnup Train Station since 2012

SHADOW MINISTER FOR INDUSTRY AND SOVEREIGN CAPABILITY
FEDERAL MEMBER FOR CANNING
MEDIA RELEASE
LABOR HAS BEEN PROMISING KARNUP TRAIN STATION SINCE 2012
3 August 2026
Federal Member for Canning Andrew Hastie MP says locals have every reason to be sceptical after WA Labor once again promised to build the long-awaited Karnup Train Station midway through the Secret Harbour by-election campaign.
Mr Hastie said the people of Karnup, Secret Harbour, Singleton and surrounding suburbs have heard it all before.
“Labor first promised a train station in Karnup before the 2013 State Election. They’ve made promise after promise since then,” Mr Hastie said.
“More than a decade later, we’re still waiting.”
Mr Hastie said the announcement reflected a familiar pattern of election commitments followed by years of inaction.
“If Labor was serious about Karnup, they would have delivered this train station in the many years Labor has been in government at both State and Federal levels,” Mr Hastie said.
“Instead, they’ve dusted off the same promise when votes are on the line.”
Mr Hastie said residents should judge Labor on its record, not its rhetoric.
“Locals have heard it all before—the question is whether they believe Labor this time.”
