MEDIA RELEASE

LOCAL MP TAKES ODOUR ISSUE TO FEDERAL PARLIAMENT

4 August 2025

Federal Member for Canning Andrew Hastie MP has taken a strong stand in Parliament, amplifying the voices of residents from the northern suburbs of his electorate who are fed up with persistent odour issues.

In his speech last week, Mr Hastie called on the WA State Government to take action to resolve the unacceptable conditions affecting local families, schools, and businesses.

“This isn’t normal, and it shouldn’t be accepted,” Mr Hastie said.

“Labor’s WA Environment Minister is silent, and local Labor members are missing in action… It’s easy to ignore a problem when you’re not the one breathing it in.”

Mr Hastie’s petition urging the WA Government to act has garnered over 700 signatures from concerned locals in the affected areas.

“I won’t stop talking about this until there’s a real outcome,” Mr Hastie said.

“For local families, local businesses, and kids stuck indoors, I call on the Western Australian State Government to stop dodging and start listening.”
