MEDIA RELEASE: COMMUNITY REJECTS OFFSHORE WIND FARM: LOCAL MP’S PETITION REACHES 10,000 SIGNATURES
Monday 13 May 2024
Local member for Canning, Andrew Hastie MP’s petition against the Albanese Government's proposed offshore wind farm has attracted over 10,000 signatures in a resounding show of community opposition.
The proposed wind farm, stretching 8,000 square kilometres along the south-west coastline, has drawn criticism from many within the region.
“The feedback I’ve received is clear – our community treasures our waterways and beaches, and the thought of industrial wind turbines off our shores is deeply troubling,” said Mr Hastie.
Mr Hastie has labelled the proposal “destructive, costly and a national security threat.”
“Labor is coming for our community and coastal lifestyle,” said Mr Hastie.
“They don’t care that we will be paying higher bills because of their pursuit of renewables, and they don’t care that the wind turbines fuelling their green dreams will be built in countries like China.”
Mr Hastie shored up his commitment to back his community in the face of Labor’s radical energy approach.
“Over 10,000 signatures proves that our community is making their voice heard loud and clear,” added Mr Hastie.
Mr Hastie is urging people who share his concerns to add their voice to the cause by signing the petition: https://www.andrewhastie.com.au/stop_labors_reckless_renewables
