LOCAL VETERAN RECOGNISED FOR HIS OUTSTANDING SERVICE
Today, Federal Member for Canning, the Hon Andrew Hastie MP presented Mr Peter Olynyk of Mandurah, Western Australia with his Reserve Force Decoration Medal with Sixth Clasp.
Mr Olynyk served his country as a member of the Australian Defence Force Reserves, Infantry Corps from February 1971 until January 2017, which is an extraordinary period of service. He retired a Warrant Officer Class Two.
Mr Hastie MP congratulated Mr Olynyk and thanked him for his service to our nation.
“Peter Olynyk was a dedicated member of the ADF Reserve for more than four decades, with a career spanning seven postings to units throughout Western Australia,” said Mr Hastie.
“His dedication to our country is inspiring, and an example to us all. It was an honour to be able to present Mr Olynyk with his Sixth Clasp and to thank him for his service to our nation and our state.”
Mr Hastie presented Mr Olynyk with his medal, followed by a recital of the Australian Defence Veterans’ Covenant Oath, at his Mandurah Electorate office today, Thursday 10 March 2022.
Due to an administrative error Mr Olynyk failed to receive the clasp in 2017. He contacted Mr Hastie’s office to investigate what had happened, who was then able to resolve the error.
The Reserve Force Medal may be awarded to a member who has, on or after 14 February 1975 and before 20 April 1999, completed 15 years efficient remunerated service in the Reserve Forces. Clasps are awarded for each additional period of five years’ service.
