ANOTHER INDUSTRY BAILOUT UNDER LABOR

Thursday 1 October 2026

Australians are continuing to pay for Labor’s failed Net Zero agenda with Bell Bay Aluminium added to the long list of industry bailouts under the Albanese Government.

It comes just months after the closure of the Liberty Bell Bay ferroalloy smelter.

Labor’s radical climate targets and high energy costs have resulted in the closure of bailout of some of Australia’s most important industrial facilities, and Australians are paying the price.

Since 2022, Labor has spent more than $8 billion on bailouts, rather than finding a real solution to provide these facilities with affordable energy.

The bailout also follows confirmation from the Member for Bass that Bell Bay Aluminium would not be eligible for Labor’s $2 billion Green Aluminium Production Credits, despite being promised that they would be.

Under the Albanese Government’s industrial policy, we are seeing more bailouts and more uncertainty. Labor has failed at its own plan for a “Future Made in Australia”.
