LABOR BREAKS BELL BAY CREDIT PROMISE

Wednesday 29 July 2026

Industry Minister Tim Ayres should stand up today and explain why Bell Bay Aluminium is not eligible for the Green Aluminium Production Credit scheme.

Last year, the Minister promised that the facility would be eligible, stating that Labor’s scheme is “absolutely designed for every Australian aluminium facility.”

But Labor has now backflipped, with the Member for Bass letting slip that Bell Bay will be excluded from the scheme.

Did the Industry Minster lie? Or was he not across his brief?

To exclude Bell Bay from the scheme is yet another broken promise from a tricky Labor Government that is undermining Australia’s aluminium industry and driving heavy industry offshore.

Labor has failed at its own Future Made in Australia plan. Instead, Labor is overseeing a future made overseas.
