STATEMENT ON PEEL HEALTH CAMPUS EXPANSION ANNOUNCEMENT
HON ANDREW HASTIE MP
FEDERAL MEMBER FOR CANNING
STATEMENT ON PEEL HEALTH CAMPUS EXPANSION ANNOUNCEMENT
6 November 2025
After years of pressure, the WA Labor Government has finally announced plans to build a new hospital for the Peel Region.
It’s the right call—but it wasn’t inspired by visionary leadership. It was driven by fear and political pressure.
For years, I’ve fought for better health services in Peel. I’ve raised it in Federal Parliament 16 times, challenged Labor Ministers, and stood shoulder to shoulder with locals who’ve had to fight for better local healthcare.
This announcement is a win for the Peel community, but it comes after five years of delay and growing frustration across our region.
I welcome the announcement that a new hospital will be built next to the outdated and overstretched Peel Health Campus, with construction starting in 2026. It’ll include more beds, a bigger emergency department, mental health services, cancer treatment, and palliative care.
While these commitments are welcome, they remain years away. The Peel Region needs these services now—not in 2028.
This announcement doesn’t solve the immediate challenges facing local health services. Locals are still waiting weeks for GP appointments, ambulances are still ramped, and our emergency department is still pushed to the brink.
I give my word to the people of Canning that the pressure won’t stop until this new hospital is built and locals get the world-class healthcare they deserve.
