Statement - The Hon Andrew Hastie MP
ANDREW HASTIE MP
FEDERAL MEMBER FOR CANNING
3 October 2025
This morning, I spoke with the Leader of the Opposition to offer my resignation from the Shadow Cabinet, effective immediately.
The Leader has made it clear that the Shadow Home Affairs Minister won’t lead the Coalition’s response to immigration matters or develop the Coalition’s immigration strategy. On this basis, I made the decision that I was not able to continue in this role and remain silent on immigration.
It is a well-established standard in the Westminster system that, if a member of the Shadow Cabinet is unwilling to live by the convention of solidarity, they must depart to the backbench.
Therefore, out of respect for Sussan’s leadership, I am resigning from the frontbench.
Sussan deserves the opportunity to lead, unencumbered by interventions from Shadow Cabinet colleagues, especially as the Coalition builds out a policy platform for the 2028 election.
I am grateful for the opportunity to have served as the Shadow Home Affairs Minister, and I wish Sussan and the Shadow Cabinet every success in this term.

I remember back when One Nation was proposing 50,000 but now they are almost as bad as Labor. The Liberal party offers very little for most voters and frankly you need a complete policy overhaul that focusses on freedom while not screwing over the poor. Birth rate replacement immigration is 30,000 per year: Use that as your starting point. The combination of AI and robotics is replacing jobs at an exponential rate. The mindless population Ponzi scheme mantra of “we need more young workers to pay for retirees” is disconnected from technological reality. Economic models from the 1930’s no longer work. We will soon have mass unemployment and ideas like the 32 hour week and lowering the retirement age will then make a lot of sense. Once people have settled here and their job has disappeared you cant just send them back. You will have a mass of unemployed voters and given the contemptuous disregard with which your party has treated the unemployed they wont be voting for you. Its a new millennium, new thinking is required -
Dirk de Jonge commented 2025-10-10 18:23:37 +0800There is no honour being muzzled and a “yes man” on the front bench.
Team unity is important but more important are policies that are right for all Australians.
It’s difficult to distinguish policy differences between the current Liberal Party leadership and those of the Labor Party, which have caused cost of living hardships and immigration altering the fabric of Australian culture. -

The People and Constitution of The Commonwealth of Australia 1901 need yours and other voices to be clearly heard on their behalf. -
