MEDIA RELEASE

$7.5 MILLION FOR A MADORA BAY – LAKELANDS PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE

19 April 2025

Federal Member for Canning Andrew Hastie MP has today announced that an elected Liberal Government will invest $7.5 million to build a new pedestrian bridge over Mandurah Road, connecting the growing suburbs of Madora Bay and Lakelands.

Nearly 500 locals have signed Mr Hastie’s petition calling for a safer and more accessible crossing between the two suburbs—currently separated by a four-lane highway with more than 25,000 vehicles passing through every day.

With the population growth of Madora Bay and Lakelands expected to grow by 81% by 2036, there is an urgent need to deliver infrastructure that keeps pace.

Mr Hastie said the bridge will deliver long-term benefits for families, students and local businesses.

“Almost 500 locals have signed the petition because they know how dangerous this road is,” Mr Hastie said.

“This is about protecting kids walking to and from school, making it easier for families to access shops, parks and the beach, and ensuring our suburbs grow safely.

“Only a Liberal Government will deliver this critical infrastructure.”

The new pedestrian bridge will be located near the intersection of Mandurah Road, Banksiadale Gate, and Madora Beach Road—a key crossing point between Madora Bay and Lakelands.
